Congratulations to the 2023
Ross Granger Memorial Scholarship Recipients

Thomas Bellaire is a Vermilion Catholic student planning to attend Louisiana State University to pursue a degree in biology before applying to dental school. He hopes to eventually become an orthodontist. He is a member of LifeTeen at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, a mass lector and member of the Faith in Action Team. His excellence of character earned him the Dominic Savio award from the VC faculty and staff. He has excelled as a member of the football, baseball (captain) and golf teams, earning all-academic status as well. While in high school, he has been a member of the Beta club, National Honor Society 4-H, quiz bowl, and drama club. He gave of his time to volunteer at the Christian Service Center during the Covid-19 pandemic.

From Lafayette High School, Emily Landry is the president of Alpha Omega, a Christian prayer group on campus. She is a gifted student with a 4.3 GPA who captains the cross country team and is a district champion runner in the 3200 meter race. Emily participates in National Honor Society, Beta club, and Key club, student council, Science Olympiad, and choir. In addition, she is involved in art club, speech and debate, and HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). She is a second degree blackbelt at Acadiana Karate Institute. Emily plans to attend Louisiana Tech University to major in kinesiology and minor in psychology. Eventually, she plans to earn a doctorate in physical therapy.

Sophie Perkins, of St. Thomas More High School, has been involved in campus ministry for 4 years, as well as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and has attended various retreats to guide in her faith formation. She is a 4 -time letterman in both academics and athletics as a basketball (captain) and track team member. She has served on the STM student council executive board, and is a 4 year Options mentor. She is also a Beta member, a Spanish club member, and a St. Thomas More ambassador. Sophie will attend either Millsaps or the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to major in business administration with a minor in creative writing.

 

 

 

 

Vermilion Catholic’s Ellie Reaux plans to attend Louisiana State University to pursue her career goal of becoming a psychiatrist. She has been a member of LifeTeen, Edge youth group and the Faith in Action Team. She is a school mass lector, music minister, and altar server and has given of her time to volunteer with the Christian Service Center in Abbeville. She is VC’s student of the year and an LHSAA academic all-stater. She is a 4 year member of the lady eagle soccer team and captain of the Eagleline dance team. Ellie is a student leader as a member of National Honor Society, Beta club, French club, drama club, art club, yearbook editor and quiz bowl.

Thaovy Tran of Erath High School is an active member of the Beta club, competing in several categories on the district, state and national level. She is a 4-H member and a top 15 finisher in the YouBeAChemist challenge. She is a temple volunteer and helped to raise funds for the new St. Andrew church. As a member of the EHS powerlifting team, Thaovy has received numerous awards in her weight class, including west regional champion. She is also a member of the Erath High winter guard. Thaovy plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to complete her bachelor of science degree in nursing. She then plans to further her education with a doctorate as a nurse anesthetist.
